The Host

Five-time Emmy Award-winning journalist Nancy O’Dell has proven to be a force in all areas of her career as a host, producer, author, and entrepreneur. She is one of the country’s most respected and leading entertainment journalists, having cohosted Entertainment Tonight for almost a decade, Access Hollywood for 13 years, and “The Nancy O’Dell Interview” for People Magazine’s entertainment show, “People, The TV Show”. She has been a contributor for the The Today Show, Dateline, and CBS This Morning. O’Dell also serves as the prime celebrity host for Talk Shop Live.

O’Dell was named one of Television Week’s “10 Most Bankable Stars in Syndication” and with more than 25 years of experience, O’Dell is a go-to anchor for live TV specials. She hosted the Grammy Red Carpet Live Special on CBS multiple years, as well as the live Emmys Red Carpet Show, the live Golden Globes Red Carpet Special on NBC for 13 years in a row and the Critics Choice Red Carpet Special. For 18 consecutive years, she hosted the live Tournament of Roses Parade for NBC and HGTV. O’Dell was a special presenter on the Academy of Country Music Awards for 9 years, as well as a host of the American Country Music Awards. In addition, she hosted The NFL Kickoff Special on NBC, New Year’s Eve Special on FOX, The Kentucky Derby Special, The Miss USA Pageant, The Miss Universe Pageant and she was the inaugural host of Nashville Star. O’Dell was handpicked by Oprah and Mark Burnett to host Your Own Show, one of OWN network’s premiere primetime shows.

O’Dell began her broadcasting career in hard news as a crime reporter and anchor. O’Dell served as evening co-anchor and investigative reporter for NBC’s Miami station, WTVJ-TV. Before that, she worked as morning news anchor and crime reporter at WCBD-TV. While in Charleston, O’Dell’s reports on the lenient police approach to DUI cases led to a State Law Enforcement Division investigation that resulted in state authorities re-issuing a more stringent directive regarding these cases. Ms. O’Dell was honored by the Associated Press with the Best Report of the Year Award for all media, South Carolina. Her initial broadcasting career started at WPDE-TV in Myrtle Beach, SC. Carolina.

Nancy’s career as a producer includes many successful series such as “Nancy O’Dell Remembers”, “Fatal Addiction with Nancy O’Dell”, and “Sex. Scandals. Crime with Nancy O’Dell”. She is a member of the Academy of Country Music Awards and was the original host and consulting producer for Nashville Star, as well as host and producer of HGTV’s Celebrities at Home.

In addition to her five Emmy Awards, O’Dell has been honored with three Associated Press Awards and two Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ) Awards. O’Dell was honored in New York Moves Magazine: Power Women issue as one of the most influential and successful women in her particular field. The Alliance for Women in Media honored O’Dell with their esteemed Genii Award for Excellence in Television.

O’Dell has made appearances in many iconic TV shows such as The Simpsons, 30 Rock, Ally McBeal. Aaron Spelling asked her to make cameos in almost all of his hugely popular shows, including Melrose Place, Beverly Hills 90210, and Charmed. She has also had roles on numerous other TV shows such as The Boys, Hannah Montana, Joey, Just Shoot Me, Liv & Maddie, and The McCarthys. O’Dell appeared in the movies such as The Smurfs, the Golden Globe-nominated film Thank You for Smoking, The Bachelor, The Very Excellent Mr. Dundee, as well as in every movie that Wes Craven directed in the huge blockbuster Scream franchise.

O’Dell regularly makes time for philanthropic endeavors. After her mother passed away in 2008 from complications related to ALS, O’Dell became a National Vice President of the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) and served as the spokesperson for ALS.net. In 2002, O’Dell was inducted into the American Red Cross’s National Celebrity Cabinet. Also, she is a national celebrity ambassador for Best Buddies, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to enhance the lives of people with intellectual disabilities. She also served as an international board member for Best Buddies.

A leader from the start, Nancy was valedictorian of her high school class, and is a summa cum laude graduate of Clemson University, finishing with the highest obtainable honors in the top 2% of her class. In May of 2013, Clemson University awarded O’Dell with an honorary Doctor of Humanities degree. A native of South Carolina, O’Dell was inducted into that state’s Music and Entertainment Hall of Fame in 1998. She was the youngest member ever and was awarded in recognition of her journalistic success.
